Salary – Depending on experience

We have an amazing opportunity in Gillingham, Kent for a Machine Workshop Operative to work for a company creating premium fuel systems, electrical systems, and industrial applications, with over a century's worth of expertise and innovation.


Responsibilities for the role of Machine Workshop Operative


  • To be able to use standard manual workshop machines to produce components to supplied drawings
  • To be able to assemble engine rigs for in house testing
  • Adhere to the company policies, standards and procedures including safety, quality, environment, and beliefs
  • Actively follows department work requests
  • Provide a clear status on task progress and workload
  • Carry out engineering tasks using manually operated machines and hand tools
  • Operate a variety of measuring equipment
  • Conduct front-line maintenance and basic fault diagnosis within the limits of training on equipment used
  • Be part of the designing and manufacturing of fabricated components using Gas, MIG, TIG, Plasma cutting sheet cutter and bending equipment
  • Carry outstripping, rebuilding, and modifying prototype diesel engines
  • Aid in the fitting of various fuel injection equipment to the engine, including, pumps, injectors, low-pressure fuel systems and high-pressure common rail system



Skills and Experience required for the role of Machine Workshop Operative




  • Must be able to understand engineering drawings and specifications
  • The ability to understand GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing)
  • Be able to utilise a variety of manufacturing and assembly techniques
  • Experience in the use of a variety of measuring techniques and types of equipment
  • Educated to B Tec Level 3 / NVQ Level 3, HNC or other Engineering qualification
  • Ability to work on your initiative with minimum supervision
  • A high degree of motivation to achieve company aims
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels




  • Ideally, familiar with the use of CAD models/ Solid Works or similar
  • The ability to use and program CNC machining centres
  • Gibbs CAM CAD/CAM software or similar PC-based computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) system for programming computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools. 
  • Experienced in the manufacture of high-precision tolerances
  • Data collection to qualify products/components as part of a quality system
