Sports Centre Duty Officer
Location: Rotherham
Type: Permanent Part-Time (18 Hours Per Week)
Salary: £22,900 (£11,140.54) per annum (pro-rata) + benefits 

We’re looking for an enthusiastic Sports Centre Duty Officer to oversee daily operations and ensure a safe, welcoming environment for all visitors. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the smooth running of a busy sports centre in a local college while maintaining high standards in customer care and facility management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of the sports centre, ensuring a safe and positive experience for all members and guests.
  • Manage facility bookings, staffing schedules, and activity timetables.
  • Act as the main point of contact, handling customer inquiries, complaints, and requests professionally.
  • Ensure the centre is clean, organised, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
  • Supervise and motivate a team of staff, ensuring all duties are completed to a high standard.
  • Regularly inspect equipment and facilities to ensure they are well-maintained and report any issues promptly.
  • Assist in promotional activities and community events to boost membership and attendance.

Experience and Skills:

  • Previous experience in sports facility management or a similar customer-facing role (highly desirable).
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to sports centres (essential).
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to handle a variety of situations with professionalism.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • A proactive attitude and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required.

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • GCSEs or equivalent (essential); additional qualifications in sports or leisure management (desirable).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to interact positively with members, guests, and colleagues.
  • Good IT skills, including familiarity with booking and scheduling systems.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and handle a busy, varied workload efficiently.
