Location - Rotherham
Hours: 37 per week
Salary: Dependent on Experience
Contract: Temp role until 30th June 2026
About the role
To enable learners with additional needs to access learning, College facilities and fully participate in general College activities, through the provision of literacy and/or numeracy support and general practical assistance in discrete and cross-College curriculum provision. The role includes providing BSL interpretation and note-taking as required. To safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

Main Duties
- Provide in-class literacy, numeracy and IT support to learners with additional needs as deployed by the LSA Coordinator
- General in-class support to groups or individual learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, as directed by the lecturer in class
- Provide discrete individual support when required to support learners with portfolio building, study skills, numeracy and literacy as deployed by the LSA Coordinator
- Support learners with additional needs in accessing College facilities and cross-College activities as deployed by the LSA Coordinator
- Provide BSL support and note-taking as the need arises
- Offer support and positive encouragement, whilst maintaining learner independence
- Act as a scribe/reader in sessions and Special Examinations
- Offer practical assistance to learners who have a physical disability (this may include personal care, toileting, etc)
- Offer wherever practical support is necessary to enable the learners to access cross-college activities fully
- Work with the ALS team to develop and maintain resources, research new developments, maintain learner records and paperwork
- Refer concerns in terms of progress, personal well-being or concerns to the tutor(s) and ALS team leaders
- Update and maintain learners' individual learning plans on ProMonitor under direction from ALS Team Leader
- Support and supervise learners during their unstructured time, lunchtime breaks, before and after the College day
- Undertake escort or travel support duties as and when required and driving duties (where suitably qualified)
- Provide emergency first aid treatment and support when required (where suitably qualified)
- To carry out invigilation duties and regular training when required
- To be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students, having due regard to the College’s Child & Vulnerable Adults Protection Policy
Skills and Experience
- Working with young persons in a support role
- Working within an educational setting
- Minimum L3 BSL qualification
- Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy or willingness to undertake
- Specialist support qualification to level 3 or willingness to complete
- First Aid Qualification
- Willing and able to empathise and work with learners in a positive and supportive way
- Work professionally and confidentially with a high degree of integrity and flexibility.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people receiving education and training
- Willing to undertake statutory training in connection with Safeguarding,
