Estates Manager role within a large, complex healthcare environment.

 

Estates Manager

Location: Shrewsbury (multi‑site based)

Salary: £25.16 - £30.18 per hour

Contract: 6-9 months

Acting confidentially on behalf of our client, we are recruiting a Multi‑Site Estates Manager to provide professional and operational leadership across a large, diverse healthcare estate. This is a senior operational role responsible for ensuring safe, effective and compliant estates services across multiple sites within a growing building portfolio.

 

You will lead the delivery of high‑quality planned and reactive maintenance services, ensuring compliance with all statutory, regulatory and company standards. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will contribute to the estate's strategy, performance improvement and the ongoing development of operational services that support exceptional patient care.

 

Key responsibilities

 

  • Lead operational estates services across multiple sites, covering buildings, engineering systems, grounds and infrastructure
  • Manage planned preventative and reactive maintenance through in‑house teams and contractors
  • Ensure compliance with statutory legislation, HSE guidance and relevant HTMs
  • Act as Authorised or Responsible Person across technical disciplines, including medical gases, electrical safety, water safety and ventilation
  • Provide expert estate and engineering advice to senior stakeholders
  • Lead, motivate and develop multi‑disciplinary estates teams
  • Manage delegated budgets, performance targets and cost improvement plans
  • Oversee contractor performance, procurement and governance arrangements
  • Contribute to estate strategies, risk registers, business continuity and emergency response
  • Participate in senior on‑call estates management arrangements

 

Candidate requirements

 

  • Significant senior estates management experience within healthcare or a similarly complex environment
  • Strong knowledge of statutory compliance, HTMs and estates governance
  • Proven experience leading multi‑site operational teams
  • Budget management and performance improvement experience
  • Confident stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Ability to act as or work towards AP/RP status across relevant disciplines

Essential

 

  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Estates Management, Building Services Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Evidence of relevant ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Awareness of Authorised Person (AP) / Responsible Person (RP) roles and requirements

 

Desirable

 

  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IHEEM, CIBSE, IET, RICS or equivalent)
  • Formal management qualification
  • AP/RP certification in one or more specialist disciplines (e.g. Medical Gases, Electrical Safety, Water Safety, Ventilation, Decontamination)
  • Previous experience working within an COMPANY or healthcare environment
  • Experience contributing to estate strategy, service redesign or transformation programmes
  • Experience in on‑call senior estates management responsibility
  • Substantial senior management experience within estates or facilities management, preferably in a large, complex organisation
  • Proven experience leading and developing multi‑disciplinary technical teams
  • Working knowledge of statutory and regulatory compliance, including:
  • HSE guidance and Approved Codes of Practice (ACoPs), Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs) and Healthcare Building Notes (HBNs)
  • Strong understanding of risk management, business continuity and emergency response
  • Knowledge of planned preventative maintenance systems and CAFM systems
  • Understanding of energy management and sustainability within estate operations
