Machine Shop Team Leader

Location: Whitstable
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

Salary: Competitive

Role Summary:
Our Client is seeking an experienced Team Leader to oversee daily operations within their Machine Shop. You will lead a team of Operators, ensuring that production targets, quality standards, and safety requirements are consistently met. This is a hands‑on supervisory role, combining leadership with production duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate daily workload to meet production schedules and key performance targets.
  • Lead, support, and develop Operators, including training, skills matrix management, and absence monitoring.
  • Maintain high standards of product quality, identifying and resolving issues such as scrap, rework, and non‑conformance.
  • Conduct first-off inspections, in-process checks, and ensure adherence to manufacturing processes.
  • Monitor and report on cell metrics including On‑Time Delivery, quality performance, and arrears.
  • Support recruitment, interviews, assessments, and onboarding of new team members.
  • Ensure all Health & Safety procedures, risk assessments, and COSHH requirements are up to date and followed.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards in line with 5C/lean principles.
  • Deputise for the Production Manager when required.

About You (Essential):

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Proven background in supervising or leading a team.
  • Strong understanding of production planning, manufacturing processes, and quality systems.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and experience with MRP/ERP systems.
  • Ability to read CAD drawings and perform inspection duties.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and leadership skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing/5s principles.
